Health and nutrition as central elements of an unprecedented cultural project 

In order to raise public awareness about good food habits and the pleasures of eating, the Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie has chosen two common themes in all of its projects: health and nutrition.

We believe in the creative potential of everyone and we want to place ourselves at the service of talent as a cultural facilitator, so that the stakeholders of gastronomy in the broad sense take up this subject and can take advantage of an adapted location, open to everyone, to present their own projects.

We want to provide access to a site open to the general public, proposing sensorial, intellectual or cultural experiences with the aim of raising awareness about good eating habits and the values of pleasure and conviviality.

Because we live in a world in which concerns about food and health are increasing.

Because 7 out of 10 French people declare that “healthy eating” has become a primary concern, whether for reasons of fitness, well-being or health.
Because it is not always easy to find your way through the large amount of information proposed on these subjects.

The Cité de la Gastronomie wants to become a place in which different audiences will have the opportunity to find out about the subjects of nutrition, health and gastronomy, and where each audience will find the most appropriate activity or event for them to obtain information in accordance with their age, interests or socio-cultural profile. 


The Cité de la Gastronomie will revisit these topical subjects in a fun manner, through artistic and cultural projects, through history, geography or even science. 


Food is the key to good health, and eating better can make a difference. 

 
The Cité Internationale wishes to be at the heart of information on this social change.

An original programme

The Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie is a space open to modern society and ideal for meeting and sharing. The objective is to propose a new vision of culinary culture. We want our spaces to be a meeting point between, on the one hand, citizens of all kinds and the more than five million people who visit Lyon each year and, on the other hand, the stakeholders of gastronomy in the broad sense. Whether they are artists, Michelin-starred chefs, start-up or renowned entrepreneurs, public speakers, nutritionists, scientists… everyone can find their place!


Consequently, the programme that we propose foresees a combination of two models which, in general, are presented separately. 


First, it is the model of a cultural centre, open to participation, with a programme based on different permanent or temporary exhibitions. 

 
It is then a case of complementing this cultural centre with an innovation and co-creation centre. The idea is to encourage encounters, sharing and the creation of projects between entrepreneurs, chefs, artists and all gastronomy stakeholders from here or elsewhere. 

 
The aim of combining these two models is to give rise to a benchmark cultural centre not only for the universe of gastronomy, but also with a cultural, social and economic model without social, cultural or professional borders.

The scientific council

The scientific council of the Cité de la Gastronomie is a forum for reflection and proposals on the site’s scientific policy. Bringing together personalities from various fields of research, this body gives its opinion on the major scientific guidelines of the Cité de la Gastronomie, on the activities, information to be transmitted and training.

The team

The Cité de la Gastronomie is managed by a team of professionals with broad experience in the introduction, management and development of cultural projects and services.

A groupe formed by multidisciplinary profiles, with a wide range of complementary experience, who share the same vision, to carry out the coordination of all the departments, guaranteeing high-quality services in line with the level of excellence desired.

The team includes professionals who are recognized in their sector, whether thanks to their experience or their training (innovation, gastronomy, art and culture, technologies, social, entrepreneurship).

The true diversity of our talents, the skills and the sensitivities of each of us, allow this managing body to adopt fair, transparent and adapted guidelines and decisions, in order to address the issues and challenges which such a project entails
